In October 1980, an SGI world peace culture festival was held with 5000 participants in Chicago. One of the stage performers was a dancer who was blind. SGI President Ikeda took up a square of special stationery and wrote a poem: “Your dancing,/ nobler than a princess’s / firmly engraved in my heart.”
At the general meeting held shortly after the festival, the dancer came back, this time led by a staff member, and holding up the poem she had received from Mr Ikeda. He held her hands in his and encouraged her. With tears in her eyes, she replied with a warm smile, “Thank you, Sensei.”
