“Finally I found my mentor in life,” said Dr Sethu Kumanan when he read a poem by SGI President Ikeda in 1996. Dr Kumanan served as chairman of the Sethu Bhaskara Matriculation Higher Secondary School, a comprehensive school system from kindergarten to senior high school in India. Thereafter he introduced the SGI leader’s poetry in the classes.

In 1997, Dr Kumanan established a four-storey Dr Ikeda Block at the school, and the next year opened Dr Ikeda School, a school for the orphans. In 2000, he founded Soka Ikeda College of Arts & Science for Women in Chennai and realised his long time dream.

Dr Kumanan asserts that Mr Ikeda’s philosophy is a universal one that enables people to become truly human and that makes it possible to achieve social reform.
