When my mentor’s business ventures reached a critical impasse, I felt the only choice left to me was to abandon my dream of a college education. Recognising my sacrifice, Mr Toda offered to teach me himself, promising to help me develop an array of practical abilities. True to his word, he gave me private instruction in a wide variety of disciplines. His deep wish was to provide me with an education that would enable me to discuss any topic with even the most eminent of scholars.
My lessons with Mr Toda spanned all the sciences, covering such fields as chemistry, astronomy, and theories on life. His instruction also encompassed both Japanese and world history, Chinese classics, political science, economics, law, and philosophy. He offered me a truly broad course of study, giving in-depth lectures based on the most up-to-date textbooks.
This thorough-going training at “Toda University” is what enabled me later in life to converse freely with Dr Toynbee and so many other leaders and thinkers around the world… The rigorous intellectual training through the life-to-life interaction of mentor and disciple has borne fruit today in the academic honors I have received from universities and other institutions of higher learning around the world.
