Matsushita also used to say: \u201cWhen I see you, I always feel <\/span>revitalised<\/span>. Just meeting with you is always an enormous pleasure.\u201d<\/span>\u200b
\n\u200bOn one occasion, Matsushita arrived a full hour in advance of their scheduled meeting, saying with an unaffected smile, \u201cI was so eager to meet you that I came as soon as I could.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n

\u200bOnce while they were meeting over a meal in\u00a0<\/span>Shinanomachi<\/span>, Tokyo, Matsushita suddenly sat up straight and said to\u00a0<\/span>Shin\u2019ichi<\/span>: \u201cI\u2019d like to call you \u2018Father\u2019 from now on.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n

Shin\u2019ichi<\/span>\u00a0was embarrassed by this declaration, but Matsushita continued: \u201cI know you\u2019re younger than I am, but you\u2019ve taught me a great deal about Buddhism and other things. I can\u2019t help but regard you as my father.\u201d<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n

\u200bShin\u2019ichi<\/span>\u00a0responded in good\u00a0<\/span>humour<\/span>: \u201cPlease, don\u2019t be silly. You mustn\u2019t say such things. I\u2019m the one who would like to call you \u2018Father.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n

\u200bBut Matsushita was quite insistent. Eventually, they compromised by deciding that they would each call the other \u201cFather.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>Shin\u2019ichi<\/span>\u00a0felt as if he had glimpsed Matsushita\u2019s deeply humble attitude towards learning and his pure heart.<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
