With his wife,\u00a0<\/span>Ikue<\/span>, at his side,\u00a0<\/span>Mr<\/span>\u00a0Toda said to\u00a0<\/span>Shin\u2019ichi<\/span>: \u201cJust in case anything should happen, I\u2019d like to entrust the\u00a0<\/span>Soka<\/span>\u00a0Gakkai,\u00a0<\/span>Toko<\/span>\u00a0Construction Credit Union and Daito Commerce Company to you. Will you accept this proposal? And, if possible, I would also like you to look after my family.\u201d<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n

It was an enormous responsibility. Listening to\u00a0<\/span>Mr<\/span>\u00a0Toda\u2019s words, the twenty-three-year-old\u00a0<\/span>Shin\u2019ichi<\/span>\u00a0felt goose bumps and indescribable emotion.<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n

\u201cYou may think I am giving you a terrible gift, but the mission that I was born to fulfill in this life is also your mission. You understand that, don\u2019t you? Be steadfast, no matter what happens.\u201d<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you and I remain dedicated to our mission, the time is certain to come when the will of\u00a0<\/span>Nichiren<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Daishonin<\/span>\u00a0can be fulfilled. No matter what anyone says, let\u2019s advance resolutely together!\u201d<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n

Shin\u2019ichi<\/span>\u00a0lifted his tear-filled eyes and said to\u00a0<\/span>Mr<\/span>\u00a0Toda: \u201cSensei, please don\u2019t worry about anything. I have always been prepared to give my entire life to you without the slightest regret, and this will never change, for all eternity.\u201d<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n

In his diary that day,\u00a0<\/span>Shin\u2019ichi<\/span>\u00a0wrote: \u201c<\/span>Mr<\/span>\u00a0Toda is like\u00a0<\/span>Masashige<\/span>, while I am like\u00a0<\/span>Masatsura<\/span>. His wife wept. Never throughout my life will I forget the emotion, solemnity, tears, sense of mission, of karmic bonds and of life\u2019s worth that I have experienced today. It has been decided that I will be his successor.”<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n
