When my mentor\u2019s business ventures reached a critical impasse, I\u00a0felt the only choice\u00a0left\u00a0to\u00a0me was to\u00a0abandon\u00a0my dream of\u00a0a college education.\u00a0Recognising\u00a0my sacrifice,\u00a0Mr Toda\u00a0offered to teach me himself, promising to\u00a0help me develop\u00a0an array of\u00a0practical abilities.\u00a0True to his word, he\u00a0gave\u00a0me\u00a0private instruction\u00a0in a wide variety of\u00a0disciplines.\u00a0His deep wish was to provide me with an education that would enable me to discuss any topic with\u00a0even\u00a0the most eminent\u00a0of\u00a0scholars.<\/p>\n
My lessons with Mr Toda\u00a0spanned all the sciences,\u00a0covering such fields as\u00a0chemistry, astronomy,\u00a0and\u00a0theories on life. His instruction also\u00a0encompassed\u00a0both\u00a0Japanese and world history, Chinese\u00a0classics, political science, economics, law, and philosophy. He offered me a truly\u00a0broad\u00a0course of study,\u00a0giving in-depth lectures based on the most up-to-date textbooks.<\/p>\n
