The great vow of Buddhism can only be actualised through the persistent challenge of going out into society and earnestly seeking to do whatever we can to inspire and encourage each person we encounter, leaving no stone unturned, so to speak.<\/span>\u200b<\/h4>\n

In The Dragon Gate\u00a0<\/span>Gosho<\/span>, we find the\u00a0<\/span>Daishonin\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0famous words: \u201cMy wish is that all my disciples make a great vow\u201d (WND-1, 1003). Nothing is more powerful than the great vow that the\u00a0<\/span>Daishonin\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0disciples make to realise\u00a0<\/span>kosen-rufu<\/span>, to share the Mystic Law with others, and to attain Buddhahood themselves and help others do the same. The benevolent forces of the universe protect those who strive to achieve this great vow. Because of the commitment to this vow, the\u00a0<\/span>Soka<\/span>\u00a0Gakkai has grown into the global movement today.<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n

In President Ikeda\u2019s Lecture on the Dragon Gate\u00a0<\/span>Gosho<\/span>, he said, \u201cThe great vow of Buddhism can only be actualised through the persistent challenge of going out into society and earnestly seeking to do whatever we can to inspire and encourage each person we encounter, leaving no stone unturned, so to speak. That is why both Mr\u00a0<\/span>Makiguchi<\/span>\u00a0and Mr Toda placed such great importance on one-to-one dialogue and discussion meetings. The way to truly fulfil the great vow for\u00a0<\/span>kosen-rufu<\/span>\u00a0is to continue reaching out in dialogue to the person right in front of us and conveying through our spirit and lives the greatness of the Mystic Law, the key to genuine happiness.\u201d\u00a0 The mentor-disciple relationship is no more than both the mentor and disciple having the same \u201cshared vision\u201d and \u201cshared vow\u201d for the future, for\u00a0<\/span>kosen-rufu<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n
