In a letter addressed to his youthful follower Nanjo\u00a0<\/span>Tokimitsu<\/span>\u00a0during the life-and-death struggle of the\u00a0<\/span>Atsuhara<\/span>\u00a0Persecution,\u00a0 the\u00a0<\/span>Daishonin<\/span>\u00a0writes:\u00a0<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n

\u201cMy wish is that all my disciples make a great vow. . . . Since death is the same in [any] case, you should be willing to offer your life for the Lotus Sutra. Everything depends on the youth, on the courage of young people dedicated to the great vow for\u00a0<\/span>kosen-rufu<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n

To rid the world of misery was the cherished wish of Mr. Toda. As his loyal disciple, I inherited this aspiration, and now I would like to entrust it to all of you, the youthful Bodhisattvas of the Earth who are my successors. I do so in the hope that our triumphant people\u2019s movement will live on forever\u2014and that you will realise glorious achievements for\u00a0<\/span>kosen-rufu<\/span>\u00a0over the next 50 years and secure the everlasting victory of the mentors and disciples of\u00a0<\/span>Soka<\/span>!<\/span><\/p>\n
