At the opening of 27th November’s session of the elective assembly of Palazzo Civic, at the invitation of President Maria Grazia Grippo, members paid a silent tribute to the memory of Daisaku Ikeda.

Philosopher and essayist, chairman of the Buddhist organization Soka Gakkai International, Ikeda, who passed away on November 15, was previously awarded the United Nations Peace Prize and received the UNHCR Humanitarian Award. In Italy, he was appointed Grand Officer of the Repubblica and had received the doctoral award from the University of Bologna Alma Mater and an honorary degree from the University of Palermo.

Also, on December 20, 2004, the City Council had granted Ikeda honorary citizenship of Turin.

Indeed, Daisaku Ikeda’s passing is a great loss to the world.
