As common mortal, no one can escape the universal sufferings of life, old age, illness and death. Having fulfilled his great life mission for kosen-rufu, Sensei, this towering leader of the kosen-rufu movement who lived a life of unprecendented achievement, passed on on 15 November 2023 at the age of ninety-five.

It is now for the direct disciples of Ikeda Sensei to vow to fulfill the great vow of kosen-rufu!

On November 23, 2023, a Soka Gakkai Memorial Service for Daisaku Ikeda, Honorary President of Soka Gakkai and President of Soka Gakkai International (SGI), was conducted from 1:30 p.m. at the Toda Memorial Auditorium in Sugamo, Tokyo. The service was broadcast live to 1,000 venues throughout the 47 prefectures of Japan.

[News] Soka School Students Vow to Inherit the Spirit of their Founder

On November 17, gatherings to celebrate Nov 18, Soka Schools Anniversary were held at Soka High Schools, Junior High Schools, and Elementary Schools in Tokyo and Kansai, and at Sapporo Soka Kindergarten in Hokkaido. A message from founder Daisaku Ikeda was sent in advance.

The students learnt of Ikeda Sensei’s death on November 18 the day after their commemorative meeting. While overwhelmed with grief, these successors expressed their determination to embrace the Soka’s spirit of “Never be defeated” entrusted to them by their school’s founder.

Ikeda Sensei composed the following poems to commemorate November 18, 2023, the 93rd anniversary of the Soka Gakkai’s founding and the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Hall of the Great Vow for Kosen-rufu. He prepared them before his passing on November 15. The poems appeared in the November 18, 2023, issue of the Soka Gakkai daily newspaper, Seikyo Shimbun.

The Soka Gakkai Funeral Service for its third president, Daisaku Ikeda, who passed away on the 15 November, was held at 1.30 pm today, 23 November 2023, at the Tokyo Toda Memorial Auditorium in Sugamo. A ceremony was solemnly conducted and live streamed to more than 1000 Soka Centres in 47 prefectures.

At a press conference on the November 20th, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its deep condolences over the passing of Ikeda Sensei recognizing his contribution to the reconstruction and development of bilateral relations in building the ‘golden bridge’ for future generations.

With a clear-sky and bright moon at 3pm over the top of Hall of Great Vow(HOGV), we see members of Brazil (holding their country flag) taking a group photo. We feel their sense of gratitude and mission-filled emotions! Even those disciples who are not physically present, should have similar sense of gratitude and mission.

[NEWS] BREAKING: Disciples Visiting The Hall of the Great Vow for Kosen-rufu after the passing of the Buddha

Members and leaders are visiting the Hall of the Great Vow for Kosen Rufu (HOGV) in Shinanomachi today. It is the first HOGV visit after being informed of Ikeda sensei’s passing on November 18, 2023. Upon the completion of the building, Ikeda Sensei said this in a gongyo meeting (November 8, 2013), “I, therefore, propose that, from this day forward, this hall be called the Hall of the Great Vow for Kosen-rufu, and that we joyfully initiate a fresh dynamic advance, spreading hope and justice, toward a new era of worldwide kosen-rufu. What do you say?”  

With a heavy and grieving heart, the disciples shall remember the guidance of Ikeda Sensei and make a fresh dynamic departure from this day onward.

Another ordinary day at Shinanomachi! Every now and then, members can be seen outside the Hall of Great Vow, bowing in respect and praying deeply in their heart.  It brought tears to our eyes to witness such genuine disciples who has a heart for our mentor! With a solemn expression and holding back tears as they keep their eyes closed, are they too making a vow to make the mentor’s vow their own? Now is the time for disciples to stand up!

After a quiet day in Shinanomachi, we finally saw a heartwarming scene at Soka University, Hachioji. A remembrance site for Soka University founder, Daisaku Ikeda was set up at the foyer of Global Square within the campus where students were seen paying their tribute by penning down their memories and thoughts for their founder. Some were seen gathering together to reminisce about this great man who was always there to wholeheartedly encouraged them to open up to the unlimited possibilities and discover their potential.

On the evening of November 15, Our beloved mentor, Dr Daisaku Ikeda, Honorary President of the Soka Gakkai and President of the Soka Gakkai International (SGI), passed away from natural causes at his residence in Shinjuku, Tokyo. He was ninety-five.

Our eternal mentor, Daisaku Ikeda,  a peacebuilder, Buddhist philosopher, educator, author and poet, passed away on 15 November 2023 at the age of 95.

This site is to honour this great man who change the course of mankind. We will be reporting live on any activities while recapping the great life of Daisaku Ikeda, his achievement and legacy.
