On July 3, 1957, as I flew from Hokkaido to appear for questioning in Osaka, I had a stopover at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, where Mr Toda was waiting for me. Embracing me and speaking with the greatest urgency, he said: “Please—do not die! Daisaku, should death overtake you, I will rush to your side and throw myself upon you and accompany you in death.” I was overcome with emotion.
The bond of mentor and disciple transcends the bounds of this existence. As long as my mentor is in my heart, I know I will never be defeated.
