I stepped down as the third president of the Soka Gakkai in April 1979. This was brought about by an ugly conspiracy between envious priests and treacherous former top Gakkai leaders, as you all know. From that moment, I stood up alone and rebuilt the Gakkai as it exists today. This has been my life and my cause. Mr Toda said that no matter what the difficulty or situation, it is vital to stand up and face it with a sense of personal responsibility. The Gakkai would never have become the organisation it is today through schemes or clever manoeuvring. If the cause is right and just, stand up alone and fight for it! Adhering to this mentor-disciple spirit, I have won and the Gakkai has won.
