When I stepped down as the third president of the Soka Gakkai (in 1979), I no longer even had a desk from which to work at the Soka Gakkai Headquarters. I had to use a corner of the tiny room set aside for the building’s janitors. Nevertheless, no matter what my circumstances, my determination to do my utmost for the welfare of the members and the Gakkai remained unwavering. I continued working for kosen-rufu just as I always had.
